I’m hitting the cross-country road beginning tomorrow. Starting from Orlando, FL and ending in San Francisco, CA, the trip will span 3,271 miles over the course of a week. Target arrival date: Sunday, January 3rd (so my roommate can get back to work!). This is my 2nd x-country road trip, and first driving East to West along the Southern Route. Stops are schedule for New Orleans, Austin, Las Cruces (New Mexico), Petrified Forest National Park, and Joshua Tree (or maybe Death Valley).
More posts to come soon. In the meantime, here’s a short FAQ. If you have other questions or things you want to hear about, post a comment.
Why are you doing this?
1. Because I love to travel (and drive).
2. Because I’m lucky enough to inherit a car that my family no longer uses. It’s stick shift, so wish me luck when I get to the SF hills. Fortunately, I learned to drive on stick.
Are you worried about traveling through the South?
A little. A friend warned, “You don’t ever want to get pulled over in Mississippi.” I hope never to find out first hand why that is. I’m looking forward to the food and polite drivers on the road. Hopefully there won’t be much more drama beyond that. Okay, funny adventures are always a plus.
